While seeing clients regarding their website it is not uncommon that we get asked about the company icon displaying next to the tab in the browser. What is it? Why don’t I have one?
It is referred to as a favicon, the word favicon is said to be short for “favourites icon” as it was originally used as the icon for the user’s favourites. Now a favicon is also used in the address bar (on certain browsers) and is placed next to the page title of the browser for those that have tabbed browsing.
While not essential to have a favicon, incorporating a favicon is a nice touch that will help improve the quality of your website. When you think about it, when looking at a series of bookmarks or tabs your eyes will be drawn to a company icon before the text, meaning users will be drawn to your website.
Additionally, think about the advantage of building your brand awareness and the professional credibility it helps improve.
It is not hard to do, it is a simple file and small addition to the code, so please ask your developer to add a quality favicon as part of your website.
