GlobalSpex was a soil carbon analysis platform that enabled rapid, cost-effective estimation of soil organic carbon using visible, near-infrared (Vis–NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) spectral data. Users could upload soil spectral measurements (covering wavelengths from roughly 400 nm up to ~16,500 nm) to a cloud-based modelling system that applied advanced signal processing, machine learning, and transfer-learning techniques—leveraging a large global soil spectral library—to generate localised predictions of soil organic carbon and associated uncertainties. The platform was designed to make spectroscopic soil analysis more accessible to farmers, land managers and researchers, offering automated processing and downloadable results without requiring deep expertise in soil spectroscopy or modelling.
